Internet explorer 7 problem,please help?

hi,why do I get blank block's with red crosses on most of the web pages? I had the same problem with the explorer provided by windows XP and updated it to explorer 7 but still no change! Do i need to install extra programs to view whatever is inside that blank blocks? lol Please help me.I'm computor illiterate !
